  1. Good to know. I'm hardly ever in a hurry to get something done. I don't mind waiting if the work is done right and reasonably priced. With this Covid thing parts and shipping are slow as !. It's been taking me 2-3 weeks to get minor odds and ends I've ordered on ebay.
  2. Please do. If a shop out there does good work we should certainly be able to reference them here.
  3. Yeah, I don't agree with a lot of the PC BS that's being thrust on us, but I also won't ever stoop to their level. We were having a discussion last night around the dinner table and my Dad said there are good and bad people of all races, and that saying white trash was the same thing as the N word. I disagreed with him. Good white people don't get offended at the term white trash. Good black people definitely get offended at the N word, and that's why I will never use it. We (normal people) have to be better than they are (the PC commies and useful idiots) We have a statue of Robert E Lee in the town square. Lee County Arkansas. Town is probably 80% black too. Last weekend there was some noise about tearing down the statue. Some people who were originally from here, but mostly people who don't live here, and never have. Outsiders. I did a little research on the subject over the weekend. The statue is not a monument to REL, it is a monument for the fallen Confederate soldiers. Lee is atop it because the county was named after him. When researching the county history, I discovered that a black, Union veteran actually founded the county! Imagine that. From historical records it sounds as he was quite a character. Hated politicians, quite a firebrand, but he was also someone who knew that compromise was usually required in order to make things happen.
  4. You want the cam lobes facing down, dashes on the cam lined up with head, and T showing in the sight hole
  5. Not sure about the outer, but you're right as far as being able to disassemble the outer. I think you just take the inner off, then remove the outer boot and you can clean it and regrease with a new boot, but you can't take it apart. I only did a couple before I decided that buying new/used CV's was worth it.

    Weather

Was hot and dry here till Saturday night. Got a big storm then, then hot at muggy all day yesterday. Another shower yesterday afternoon late, and again this morning. The heat here wasn't bad till we got the rain. Now it's stifling.
  7. I always put mine in the back storage box. Make them easy to get to if they need replacement or work.
  8. Glad you weren't hurt bad. You're gonna be feeling all that when you get older!
  9. This particular Ferris was a 2018 with 42 hours on it. It's an IS 2100Z. I wanted the Vanguard but did not want EFI, so it suited the bill more or less perfectly.; I love the old Kawasaki engines on my 80's era John Deere mowers, but the newer Kawasakis look to have a lot of valve issues, and most of the newer Vanguards are EFI, which I didn't want, so this one works. I would have preferred a 54" deck, as this one tends to scalp or mow unevenly in a couple of spots in the yard that aren't level, but I can certainly live with it. 25 mins to mow my yard vs 2.5 hours with my old John Deere with a 38" deck.
  10. Wife and kids got me a new doormat for the house for Father's Day
  11. Localish guy sent me a message on facebook asking for help on his 420FA (DCT). Said it acts like it's slipping in first, second, and reverse when it's warmed up. Doesn't do it when cold. This is a new one on me. The DCT's run on oil pressure, so normally this is a low oil symptom, and with the DCT the clutches go 1,3,5 on one clutch, so if it's slipping in first and second, but not 3,4,5, that's doesn't make sense. Anyone have any ideas? @toodeep you ever seen this in your shop?
  12. Either buy a new OEM solenoid, or get a used OEM solenoid from Powersportsnation.com. Don't buy a junk aftermarket solenoid. They hardly ever work.
  13. Brushes are cheap and easy to swap in.
  14. Sounds like he's talking about CV joints. They are kinda like a swivel bearing with the balls in there.....
  15. ! he might find a Roman Denarius, depending on where in the UK he is.....
  16. It ended up being a broken wire at the plug going to the stator. I got it fixed. Thanks for the response though!
  17. Dad bought a 5HP Mercury for a duck motor back in the late 80's/early 90's. He bought Mercury over Evinrude because the Mercury has a clutch in the bottom end instead of a shear pin. His Merc is a cold natured motor, but runs like a top once it's running. Of course, like everything else he owns, probably doesn't have 20 hours on it. My Evinrudes with two plugs definitely starts easier.
  18. I haven't ridden any other zero turn mowers, but I wouldn't say the Ferris is particularly smooth riding. That said, all the guys around here who do mowing for a living swear they ride like a caddy compared to the other brands. I figure the other brands just ride REALLY rough. Dad ended up picking up a Ferris a couple of weeks ago. What took me about 2 hours to mow on my old Deere 112L with a 38" deck took me 25 mins on the Ferris. It's a 61" deck, 23HP Vanguard engine. It's one of the heavier commercial grade units.
  19. Might be a solenoid going south, or might be starter brushes. You can try jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver. If it still struggles your starter brushes are probably worn and you'll need to replace them. Easy job. Takes about 15 minutes.
  20. What all do you need? I have a few carcasses around.
  21. Yep, that's why I said "87 it could be either", as in either a 350D or a 350A🤡 Wanted to make sure he knew which particular one he had.
  22. @retro did that. Drilled a tiny hole in the top, used a grease needle, but he didn't add a zerk. He used a little sealant to close the hole. OEM tie rod ends are only $7 or $8. Tie Rods aren't cheap new, but used they are. I just use OEM ends and keep extra stock tie rods on hand in case I bend one.
  23. Yeah I can't believe how pricey and heavy the 4 strokes are. I'll stick to my old late 60's/ early 70's motors. They run great and are easy and cheap to work on.
  24. So small engine technician? LOL
  25. Credit to "intoodeep" over on the Highlifter board for this listing, which was done in about 2011. The info is good info, and with no traffic over on the HL board I figured I would copy the info before it disappears. kids tire (true mud tire) guide for honda atvs Since the honda section has more " can i spin x tire with my bike" threads then all other brand sections combined, i thought this would help the youngsters. 300 stock 25s 300 w small gr 27s 300 w big gr 29.5-30 350 rancher stock 26s 350 rancher with 23% gr 27-28 350 rancher with big gr 29.5-30 400 rancher stock not possible 400 rancher gr 26s 420sra stock 27s 420sra w small gr 28s 420sra w 2 small gr 29.5-30 420sra w 35% gr 29.5-30s 420sra w 50% gr 32s 420sra w 69% gr 32s 420sra w 84% gr 32.5s (mambas are heavy lol) 420 at stock 25s 420at w sra.gr 27s 420at w big gr 28s 450 stock 27s 450 small gr 28s 450 big gr 29.5-30s 500 foreman refer to.the 420 sra chart.
