  1. I like the Shindy rebuild kits but they don’t come with the starter jet passage plug. Shown in this picture by using the OEM parts finder at Rocky Mountain atv. you can get the starter jet passage plug by buying them separately in sets of 4 (Gold Wing carbs), buying a Honda gasket kit ($18), or buy a K&L carb rebuild kit. I recommend the K&L kit. also consider replacing the starter enrichment valve ($50) and the primer plunger ($65). i know this seems a bit much, but that’s the price for fooling around with a twenty year old lol
  2. @Popa Fry were these new clutch friction disks you installed or the old ones? If new, i think you have to soak them in oil for a day or two before installing. if idle is much higher than 1400rpm as retro stated, the quad will jump when put in gear. Try to get that idle down where you know it’s not the carb. i wear size 12 gloves so I know what yer going thru adjusting the pilot. I use a flat bit in a bit holder. Sometimes just the bit. If your choke valve is old I suggest replacing it.
  3. My ignition was not working after a lot of troubleshooting. I would pull the spark plug cap off the coil wire. The cap has a spike that contacts the wire. Look for corrosion—mine was very blue from copper oxidation. I cut off about 3/4 inch to get to clean wire. Used a 22 cal bore brush to clean the plug spike. Applied a thin film of permatex dielectric grease. And reassembled. mine worked after doing this—i had already installed a new OEM CDI
  4. Popping can mean that front diff is dry. Those old manual lifts damaged a lot of fenders. That’s why I went to new style lifts.
  5. Whataya think @shadetree or @jeepwm69 i don’t think you can fix this flywheel without getting it out of balance. Can a machine shop repair it?
  6. The pins lock in using little barbs. Your local electric shop sells pin removal tools.
  7. Maybe you have a pin loose in the connector Remove the FCU and use a multimeter to test which it is
  8. Use the oem parts finder at Rocky Mountain atv and Partzilla. Only buy OEM. Yeah those rear brake cables get snagged on the trail, then can’t get em straight after.
  9. The aftermarket stator Does it have any extra connectors you didn’t need? Are the wire colors different? can you members remind me of the pulse generator’s role in this? The firing impulse (pulse generator) is triggered by the flywheel, and the CDI amplifies the pulse to the coil. Can the pulse be too strong for the CDI somehow? or dirty spark plug wire inhibit discharge?
  10. Take out the spark plug. As you cycle the engine counterclockwise, watch the valves and the flywheel port. as the exhaust valve closes, you’ll see the intake valve open. As the intake valve starts to close, you’ll see the T on the flywheel. that’s where you wanna be. you can back the motor up a little Go too far and the exhaust valve will start to open
  11. Welcome ranger hand me down? Polaris? or rancher hand me down? Older Honda Fourtrax?
  12. That’s a great method FF. On big stumps i used to drill a bunch of holes in the stump and pour a box of powdered milk every month or so. Then i heap dirt over it to keep it moist. Fungus grows and eats the stump to nothing in about a year.

    deoderant

Don’t need it; can’t smell lol!
  14. The service manual will list a charging rate for certain rpm. Keep in mind it doesn’t list draw at idle. Your accessory circuit is probably rated at 10A. use P= I x E to determine maximum loading on that circuit: Power (watts) = Inductance (Amps) x Electromotive Force (Volts) for a 10A circuit on a 12 Volt system, expect the fuze to blow before you draw 120 watts. actually fuze probably won’t blow with temporary excursions to 120W. A fast blow wouldn’t tolerate them though
  15. How was the transaction? Local pickup? probably $450 fee.
  16. How did your sale go? Looks like you got close to our estimate?

    Weather

We’re camping and thot we might see something. I was up at 4 and stepped out of the camper—the sky was already lit. I thot i saw three of them but then wife said “no you’re looking west. The planets are supposed to be in the east.” Then she said she saw four stars thot they were the planets. I gave up and went back to sleep
  18. Hope your arm is better. what do you mean by slate on the walls? asbestos shingle? here in the park, going with one of my buds to take his grandkids fishing
  19. To Clean it up; wipe it down with a moistened cloth. Use an old toothbrush or plumbers flux brush to clean the connectors. Use contact cleaner. Then lube with permatex dielectric grease. Once good and dry, then pack it in your spares box!
  20. Put some permatex dielectric grease on the connector contacts and boot to keep contamination out
  21. Keep it! You may need it and now you have a spare!
  22. I see you got some bidders already; I hope you get it sold. In long past, Shadetree has gotten between $2600-$3000 for these after he’s gone thru them.
  23. Very good. When replacing the starter i think is good also to replace the worn reduction gear. glad you took it to a pro —you made a good effort
  24. You’re better off changing the cam chain before you set the valves. IMO if you know it’s bad, you’re risking bending a valve. i think Shadetree already mentioned this so I’m just trying to help you. i used 2000F Rustoleum primer on my heat shield, header and Cobra silencer. I used 2000F paint on the header and silencer . Plus new copper gaskets. It lightly smoked for a few days after i think you’re doing good work; carry on as you think just my .02
