  1. Two bikes? Who needs two bikes? That's nuts.
  2. They'd be broke as ! all the time. Signed. Guy with 3 Jeep CJ's and about 20 Honda ATV's. Not sport quads, but still wallet emptiers.
  3. Welll, the thing is, when adjusted for inflation, a 1988 Honda 300 would cost about $7500 in today's dollars (thanks to our garbage government debasing our currency). So a 350 would have been even more. They are absolutely not made as well, but they're quite a bit cheaper now than they used to be when you figure in inflation.

We used to go down to South Arkansas and ride every spring. Couple of guys had a hunting club down there and there were trails everywhere, and as long as it wasn't hunting season you were more or less free to roam. Big SxS's have make them pretty much unpassable on a stockish ATV. All the low spots have been wallowed up by the huge lifted SxS's.
  5. You'd be suprised what these things can take. My sister and one of her idiot "friends" hit a tree on my 09 Foreman going about 35. Bent the frame, busted front plastics, bent the right front wheel, tie rod, front bumper, and broke off the front diff mounting bracket at the very front. Swapped everything to a straight frame, new front bumper, rack, fender, tie rod, and wheel and it's been fine since. Rolling one over the only thing I'd be worried about on the engine is oil level, and make sure oil didn't dump through the crankcase vent and soak your air filter.
  6. I'd check the grounds, hook up those brake microswitches, and what does it do in reverse? The Rubicons are finicky when it comes to limp mode. I've seen some that have that engine cut out when the reverse switch wasn't being fully pressed in.

! man. Sorry you got hurt, glad it wasn't worse. Might want to get it looked at and make sure there's nothing in there that requires more attention.
  8. I just got chewed on by some guy on bookface who chimed in on a post and said he didn't feel any power loss with 28" Outlaws on a stock 420. I called BS, pointed out proper gearing, the pinned sticky from HL from 2011, and the laws of physics. He got upset and screeched at me a minute about his "opinion". The problem I have with these people is they'll say "Muh stock Honda turns 30's grate with no GR". NO, it absolutely does not. Some kid reads that, and instead of buying a GR, said kid runs out and spends $800 on new tires, and then tears up his wheeler trying to pull them without proper gearing. I've run tires that were bigger than ideal on stock bikes, but I would never tell people that it's a good idea. Gearing is important. Save your money, put in a GR if you want to run big tires. Drives me nuts.
  9. He is a phone guy over email, and I've found a lot of guys who are good at what they do would rather talk for a minute on the phone that spend all day responding to emails. He doesn't mind you supplying your own rod, and he claims the vesrah rods are better than the OEM Honda rods at oiling and heat dissipation. Wouldn't save you much supplying your own rod, but would save you a little, and you'd know it was right when you got it back. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ves-va-1017?seid=srese2&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Brands+|+V&utm_term=4582283430051992&utm_content=GSAPI+5ba290cf3fbf6
  10. If your crank is bent you'll have to replace. If it's just the rod you can use this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vesrah-Connecting-Rod-Kit-VA-1017/193563794115?epid=209919986&hash=item2d114d1ac3:g:osIAAOSwD0dfCEIR and send to Vince at Mr Crankshaft. He'll rebuild, true, and ship back to you. Turnaround time is usually under a week for me. Cheaper than buying a used crank, and you'll know it's ready to go when he's through with it. With the time you're investing in this, I'll pull the crank and send it to him. Then you KNOW it's good. If someone sank this wheeler, hydrolocked the engine, it can tweak the con rod. You can call Vince. He's a nice guy, very knowledgeable. He might be able to tell you if there's a way to check your rod to see if it's true. http://www.mrcrankshaft.com/#honda
  11. 3 blinks indicates a problem with the rear speed sensor on the front diff. 4 blinks would be low voltage (so verify that it's blinking 3 times) Fish is right on load testing the battery. I've had two recently that read 12V at rest but would not start a wheeler. A solenoid that clicks could be going bad, or you might have a bad battery, or a bad starter. Turn your key on, and jump the terminals on the solenoid with an old screwdriver. If the starter turns over, your solenoid is bad. If the starter doesn't turn over, your battery or starter is bad. If your starter didn't turn over, hook some jumper cables to the battery and repeat. If starter now turns over your battery is bad. If it doesn't your brushes in your starter are probably bad. Report back and let us know what you find.
  12. Yep, hook the tender to a battery and then check the battery terminals while it's charging.
  13. My wife caught me installing a crank and transmission into cases on the coffee table in the den back when we were dating. She doesn't let me do that anymore. (was hot as hades in my shop, so thought I'd do it inside in the AC)
  14. Just order OEM. Under $25. https://www.powersportsdiscount.com/oemparts/p/honda/14401-hn5-671/chain-cam-52l-didscr-0409sdh-52le
  15. Hope you stick around. Sounds like you have enough experience tinkering on these things to be an asset to the forum. Good group of guys here.
  16. Yep, I soak in gas or my parts washer, then take out, wring out (gently or you'll tear it) and let dry, then re oil. I used Klotz. Usually cheaper in person than online. Any filter oil designed for air filters should work. https://www.amazon.com/Klotz-KL-606-Air-Filter-Oil/dp/B00230BKMM Bet way to do it is to buy another air filter (OEM) and then put then new one on, clean the old one and oil it and put it in a ziplock. Then next time your filter needs to be cleaned you just swap them out.
  17. Welcome to the board. If you'd like to talk ATV's, you're in the right place. However, we are a member sponsored, not-for-profit forum, and we don't want our board cluttered up with advertising. Thanks for your understanding.
  18. Yeah, just start the puller by hand and then run it on with an impact. Should come right off. I had a 420 that had a tweaked rod. No up/down play. Looked straight. Wrist pin to rod was tight, but I could feel a drag when I turned it over by hand. It ran and actually ran well, but wouldn't stop smoking. I finally put a new crank in it and after that it worked great, no smoke. I did end up selling that one at a loss though after all I had to put into it.
  19. Honestly I watch crap TV with the wife (sort of, I'm usually on my phone with it playing in the background). The only thing I really like to watch is AHC (formerly the military channel). They do WW2 documentaries all the time. Last night I watched a show about the Nazi part in the US during the 30's and how Hitler had german spies all over the US before the war started, trying to steal tech from the US. I do like the Goldburgs. Kinda stupid at times, but reminds me a lot of how things were when I was growing up. I liked "The kids are alright" too, but of course they cancelled that one after one season because it didn't have enough token weirdo roles given the time I was supposed to be taking place.
  20. Yeah but I'm working in the yard because my shop is overflowing with parts and junk! You gotta live up to your username!
  21. Good grief you guys have a special tool for everything! I use a floor jack. Jack the rear up using the diff skid, jack the front up just in the middle of the frame under the front diff. If I need to get all 4 wheels off the ground I use jackstands under the rear axle and under the frame right in front of the engine.
  22. I think @toodeep has tracks on one of his. Might be a Rincon.

I'll see your corn silage, and raise you cleaning out Milo tanks. That crap used to make me want to tear my skin off. Back in those days I was younger, leaner, and had cold beer on the brain at the end of the day. Now I'm old, fat, and just want to lay on the couch. LOL
  24. Bad Boy is out of business, so finding parts for it could prove interesting. Hopefully batteries are all it needs. Keep them charged, full of distilled water, and they should last a long time. Tap water will kill them much faster.
